10 Best Movies to Watch in 2020

Superheroes? Horror? Here are the movies that will rock the box office.

We’ve cried, cheered and slept through many movies last year as 2019 gave us the likes of Avengers: Endgame, Joker and Knives Out to name a few. This year will be another year for Hollywood’s greatest franchises and stand-alone films. From espionage to monster brawls, these are the must-watch movies of 2020.

1. Wonder Woman 1984

The first Wonder Woman movie was considered a gem in the DCEU, so Warner Bros’ decision to produce another instalment came as no surprise. Set in the mid-’80s, the Amazonian princess squares off against Cheetah, her long-time enemy in the comics played by Kristen Wiig. Expect ’80s humour, neon lights and buddy cops.

2. No Time to Die

In Daniel Craig’s final 007 film, No Time to Die explores Bond’s life after retirement. He was called upon by a friend from the CIA, Felix Leitner, to assist him in the search for a missing scientist. Léa Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes and Ben Whishaw return to reprise their characters while Bohemian Rhapsody’s Rami Malek takes on the unique role of a ‘misunderstood’ villain.

3. Black Widow

If you’re an avid follower of the MCU, you’d know about Black Widow’s fate in Avengers: Endgame. Regardless of that, Marvel and Disney decided to still produce a Black Widow movie, following the events of Marvel’s Civil War that saw Iron Man and Captain America clash heads. In this movie, fans will also get to see David Harbour (Stranger Things) as the Russian equivalent of Captain America and Florence Pugh (Midsommar) in action as another Black Widow.

4. Mulan

Mulan
may probably be one of the most memorable Disney princess movies in Asia, after becoming the first-ever Asian Disney princess. In 2020, Disney will be releasing a live-action version of the classic, with a few tweaks. Even if this remake may not have Mushu and Li Shang, it will be interesting to see how Donnie Yen introduces his new role to the lore.

5. Tenet

Currently, the only thing we know about Tenet is that someone is trying to prevent World War III using time travel. While that might be a bit far-fetched, the anticipation for this film comes from the reputation of the director, Christopher Nolan, who has a good track record in producing excellent movies. His last movie, Dunkirk, was critically acclaimed while his Dark Knight trilogy has yet to be beaten by any DCEU movies to date. This movie will star John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Michael Caine, and Kenneth Branagh.

6. Ghostbusters: Afterlife

The first Ghostbusters movie changed how kids see ghosts, because for the first time ever ghosts can be dealt with. Ghostbusters: Afterlife tells the story of a single mother and her two children, who discover their connection with the original Ghostbusters. Hopefully this one will be better than the reboot.

7. Free Guy

Have you ever wondered how life would be if you’re an NPC in an open world game? Ryan Reynolds stars as an NPC called Guy who realizes he is a background character in an open world video game called Free City that will soon go offline. Frankly, only Ryan Reynolds can carry such a wacky character after his stint in Deadpool.

8. Godzilla vs. Kong

What’s better than seeing Godzilla terrorize cities while battling King Ghidorah on the big screen? Seeing King Kong challenging the titans for a royal rumble of monsters! Featuring Millie Bobby Brown, the creators of Godzilla have been teasing fans over a possible brawl between the two kings, and we’re excited to see how the fight will conclude.

9. Scoob!

Scooby Doo and his gang of mystery solvers have tackled hundreds of cases in the past, but the plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world will just be their toughest adventure yet. Scoob! will also bring us on a trip down memory lane to Scooby’s humble beginnings, and how Shaggy and Scoob first got together.

10. A Quiet Place 2

After the death of Lee Abbott, the Abbott family must now continue to survive without the presence of their former ‘leader’. Now that they’re stepping out into the unknown again, they suddenly realize that the blind creatures may not just be the only danger around them. Emily Blunt will return to the role of Evelyn Abbott, alongside Peaky Blinders’ Cillian Murphy.
