Tempatan Fest returns bigger and better
The pioneers of the #lokalah fashion industry will be capping the year with a 2-day pop culture fiesta, powered by unifi. Their music arm, Tempatan Stage, will be the centrepiece of the festival, as they look to draw crowds from both the rock and hip hop spectrums of the scene. Headlining the rock stage will be legends Blues Gang, OAG and Koffin Kanser while in-demand beat performers Sonaone, Alif and K-Clique are the big names that are decorating the hip hop stage.

Dr Yew Weng Keng won first esports medal for Malaysia
We sent our first-ever batch of esports athletes to the SEA Games this year, and one of them was an assistant professor at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. Dr Yew Weng Keng became the first ever Malaysian esports gold medalist after beating Thailand’s Werit Popan in a game of Hearthstone.
Weng Keng, or wkyew90, has cemented his name in Malaysian esports history, and is looking for more success in the future.
The final film in the Skywalker saga opened on the 18th
After coming back from the dead with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, the famous Skywalker saga looks set for its conclusion with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. After the release of The Last Jedi, fans were split in two over the direction of the saga: some loved that the franchise dared to try fresh directions, others just weren’t impressed with unexpected turns that presented itself during the Rian Johnson movie.
Once most fans have watched the film, this movie will decide the fate of the Skywalker saga in the Star Wars lore!
John Frusciante rejoined Red Hot Chili Peppers
When legendary funk rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers debuted I’m With You, the album received a mixed bag of response particularly because fans were missing the guitar licks of the great John Frusciante, who played an integral part in the band’s success. Two albums later, the band announced that Josh Klinghoffer will no longer play for the band and his predecessor, John Frusciante, is now his successor.

Benevolent Ba will be played at Sundance Film
Malaysian cinema is slowly gaining interest from around the world and the induction of the Benevolent Ba short for Sundance is proof of it. Benevolent Ba is a short film directed by Diffan Sina Norman. It stars actor Mustapha Kamal, actress Lydiawati, YouTube sensation Anwar Hadi and up-and-coming actress Mia Sabrina. Many industry players praised the film for its storytelling aspect, and after watching the trailer, we understand why.
